Customer Rating: Summary: good, but not the bands best Comment: Many times the most popular album isn't necessarily the best album from said artist. This is a perfect example. T-Rex's "Electric Warrior" has its share of great songs, but in my opinion, they can't stand alongside the Slider album, which is probably the best album he ever did. I was told by many people that Unicorn is actually his best album, but I haven't been able to hear that one yet.
Anyway, songs like "Mambo Sun" and "Jeepster" are quite good, however, they're also mood songs which means I have to be in a certain mood to appreciate them. It's probably because of the way the songs on here tend to pleasantly repeat a lot. Whereas the stuff on the Silder is immediately exciting and diverse enough that I can easily enjoy it no matter HOW I feel. That shouldn't stop you from buying Electric Warrior, because I KNOW I'm in the minority with that opinion.
Oh and my goodness, "Bang a Gong (Get it On)" is NOT the only good song on here folks. Don't let radio stations trick you on that one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointed Comment: After hearing 20th Century Boy, I decided to check out T. Rex. I was familiar with the band from their only song on the radio, Bang a Gong. After seeing all the 5 star reviews, and the title "Electric Warrior", I figured this CD would rock. It didn't. The only song that rocks is Bang a Gong, which I have heard a hundred times on the radio. The rest of the songs are slow and boring. I was expecting a cd with at least half rocking songs like 20th Century Boy, but this only has 1 out of 17! I can't believe how high this cd is rated. If you are looking for a good rock cd, look elsewhere.
Customer Rating: Summary: Electric Warrior Comment: T.Rex-Electric Warrior *****
In a nutshell Electric Warrior is one of the greatest and most important records in rock n' roll history. Countless bands form or changed their approach because of this album alone. 1 part glam, 1 part folk, and three parts excess and you have T.Rex's masterpiece, Electric Warrior.
In terms of glam, Marc Bolan's 1971 opus is on par with Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, who could have even learned a few things from this.
From the first high-healed stomp of 'Mambo Sun' through the beautiful pop balladry of 'Cosmic Dancer' on through the rollicking 'Jeepster' and 'Planet Queen' and the indulgent 'Life's A Gas' and the closing of the bitter sweet 'Rip Off' This is one of those albums that you can't even comprehend making or dream of making because it is not plausible, it simply just happens out of nowhere.
To say that 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' is the focal point of the album would be more than cliche, but at the same time I dare anyone to find it's contemporary, because even on a flawless album such as this it still reigns supreme and triumphs over all. It's half-pick guitar riff, and evocative imagery make it one of rocks most celebrated and covered tunes.
Electric Warrior is simply put...that good, and this reissue is THE definitive version. With extensive liner notes, lyrics, a poster. Great sound, and plenty of bonus material. All bonus songs are excellent and top shelf as is the rare included interview which closes the album. So yes is this worth buying another Electric Warrior version, yes, it is essential!
Customer Rating: Summary: START A T.REX COLLECTION HERE Comment: I've always liked Bolan's songs but have previously only had compilations. Even though I like most of the songs on these collections I rarely played them because as often happens the songs did not fit together well for me.
EW works really well as a whole and is a great listen in its entirety. I have listened to it loud and it ROCKS, then at lesser volume it works well too, with Bolans vocal stylings coming over well. This is a real 'album' that fits together so well with each song complimenting the others and while there is a definite overall sound there is also great variety within it. Interested in T.Rex? Start here. TIP Burn a disc without the extra tracks (burn them onto a separate disc if you like) as the album as it originally stood needs no adornment good though the additions are.
Customer Rating: Summary: Love This Cd Comment: This is a great cd for anyone who is a fan of Marc Bolan! The collection of songs just rocks my socks. Plus the acoustic version of, "Planet Queen" is just swingin' cats.
