Comment: Michael Bublé's self titled album truly shows off his excellent set of pipes! Michael has an excellent voice and it's great that he shares his gift with us. The sound quality on this CD is excellent; and I like the artwork, too.

"Fever" is a number made so famous by the great Peggy Lee; and if she heard Michael sing this she'd be very pretty! Michael's rendition plays with the tempo and adds a few key changes to make this version of "Fever" all his own--excellent! The drums and percussion do a lot to carry the melody; I love it! "Moondance" is a great cover of a Van Morrison song; Michael sings this with energy and his enthusiasm is practically infectious! Michael sings this awesome love song with panache and he never misses a beat. Michael's talent really shows through here.

Listen also for "Kissing A Fool;" Michael delivers this George Michael tune with all his heart and soul; the arrangement for the piano is so elegant. "Kissing A Fool" is a prime example of music for slow dancing with your sweetheart late at night all alone in your living room. "For Once In My Life" features Michael Bublé performing a marvelous cover of this Stevie Wonder song; Michael slows down the tempo somewhat and the brass helps the musical arrangement along quite a bit. Michael performs "For Once In My Life" with true heartfelt passion and that's very special.

"How Can You Mean A Broken Heart" has Michael singing a bit more near the top of his range; the Gibb brothers would love it! The elegant music that accompanies Michael as he sings this fits perfectly to make this number soar.

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is a cover of a great rock song by Queen; and when Bublé sings this he makes it just as electric as Queen did--but in his own way. On "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" Michael Bublé keeps the original tempo of the rock song but his voice is so smooth it easily rivals that of Freddy Mercury and Queen's original version of this tune. "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" features Michael Bublé squarely front and center--and he commands your attention so easily because of his natural vocal talents. Wow, how Bublé can sing!

"The Way You Look Tonight" is a classic love song that gets the royal treatment from Michael; listen for an elegant arrangement to enhance the natural beauty of this number. "The Way You Look Tonight" is easily a major highlight of this album. Of course, "Come Fly With Me" is a marvelous cover of this tune Frank Sinatra loved to sing; and Michael does this great justice with his fine voice. The musical arrangement for "Come Fly With me" fits in perfectly with Michael's singing this song, too.

The CD ends with Michael performing "That's All." This tender love song shines like gold when Michael delivers this all the while sounding like pure silk. It's wonderful!

Michael Bublé fans will want this album in their collections. Other people just discovering the magic of Michael Bublé can use this as a fine CD for starters.

Summary: Michael has it all!
Comment: Having already purchased Michael Bublé's two albums, 'Call me Irresponsible' and 'It's time' I was totally hooked on this great singer. Would this earlier album be up to the standard of the later ones? The answer is a resounding YES! With a smooth, sexy voice like Michael's he just can't lose and as with the other albums, the arrangements are brilliant.
Highly recommended!

Summary: Smooth as Butter Brickle
Comment: I have several of Bubles' albums and this one along with his other releases are fresh and smooth. If his music was a ice cream flavor it would be Butter Brickle. His Vancouver, BC roots coupled with his almost innate interpretation of standards has lit every bulb on Broadway, or at least inside of me. I have never been a real fan of Sinatra but Bulbe' has shown me the way. I don't even really give much stock to vocalists singing someone else's work but he has shown he can stand on his own two feet with his own compositions and lyrics.

Editorial Reviews:

Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Bublé. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose '50s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Bublé sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," "That's All") and rock era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Ting Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman, and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. --Jerry McCulley
