Customer Rating: Summary: Olga Gets Better Comment: After deviating from her original merengue style, it seemed unclear whether Olga Tanon would release an album that appealed to a wide array of listeners. But this CD is adaptable to many varieties, and it is certainly a worthy purchase. Not as good as the albums she released later, Sobrevivir is still a must have for fans for tropical music.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dynamic! Comment: In top voice and the songs are snappy. In the past she's had so-so material when singing ballads. Here, they are as strong as her voice. Best Cuts: Mentiras, Caramelo, Beso A Beso, Ojos Negros, No Podras and Sobrevivir. If you're just starting out with Olga, this is a non disappointer!
Customer Rating: Summary: Very disappointing Comment: Sobrevivir gets off to a promising start with the engaging "Por Tu Amor", but after that it is all downhill.
"Easy Listening", "Middle of the Road", "Spanish Pop", or my favorite pejorative "Wall to Wall" all describe the rest of this album.
Routine ballads are the dominant element, and I can't distinguish one from the other. In between are a few hoaky up tempo songs.
I'm sorry - Olga is one of the greatest Latina singers of all time, and this is not the direction I want to see her go.
Yo Por Ti is the only different, yet creative album she has done since abandoning pure merengue back in 1997. Too bad.
