Customer Rating: Summary: A great live album Comment: "Wow" is the best way to describe the experience of listening to this 2 CD set. I can't imagine a better helping of bluegrass and alt country than what I hear on these sides. The instrumentals are blistering, Alison's vocals are breathtaking, and the all around musicianship is nothing but outstanding. There may be purists who know of better versions of the standards in this repertoire, but I'll take these any day.
Customer Rating: Summary: A must-have! Comment: This is a must-have piece of music! Incredible musicians, absolutely delightful music. There is also a DVD available of this concert, which is also a must-have. The DVD includes a lot of talking--hey, it's a recording of a live concert--but the performance is excellent. The CD doesn't have all the talking. GET THEM BOTH!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Krauss is a New Favorite Comment: I am not a mega fan of bluegrass, but this album has been done so well, it often takes my breath away. She has included a wide variety of music and musicians who focus on the total sound. Just excellent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Live Bluegrass Comment: Alison Kraus is a genius in bluegrass. I don't like country western at all, and this album doesn't even have a hint of that in it. The musicianship and instrumentation on this album is melodious in a way that treats your ears! Recorded live in a theater in Kentucky, this album is worth every dime I spent on it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Convert Comment: As a rule, I basically hate country music, but I LOVE Allison Krauss and US! It's definately her voice...crisp and clear and lacking that "twang" and "nasality" of most country singers. I am also a big Celtic music fan and I can hear the similarities between the two. The instrumentals are rich and deep and tie it all together.
My friend introduced me to AKUS a month ago....now I'm addicted! There is just so much crap out there now....this definately is NOT!

This two-CD, 25-song set, recorded in Louisville on two nights in the spring of 2002, finds bluegrass's most celebrated crossover band at the top of its game. Krauss's warm, feathery vocals, capable of conveying complex emotions in a single note, appear more full-bodied than in studio recordings, yet lose none of their sensual appeal or dramatic tension. She's perfect, for example, as the melancholy temptress on "Let Me Touch You for Awhile," coming across as both savior and seductress, while Jerry Douglas's Dobro echoes the searing strains of passion and pain. With banjoist-guitarist Ron Block, bassist Barry Bales, and guest drummer Larry Atamanuik anchoring the rhythm, the ensemble deftly blends bluegrass with jazz, rock, and folk, combining lightning speed (though rushing through "Forget About It") with sophisticated chops, tangible emotion, and thrilling vocal blends. The crowd, more spellbound with every note, doesn't even breathe on "Ghost in This House" and nearly tears the place down on Dan Tyminski's voice-of-George Clooney showcase, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." But who could blame them? It's only one highlight on an album of uncommon artistry, a moving testament to how good live music can be in the hands of world-class players. --Alanna Nash
