Customer Rating: Summary: Again With the Werewolves! Comment: Strange that this genius is best remembered for an odd little song called "Werewolves of London". I suppose it beats not being remembered for anything. This "Best of..." album is a good primer for those new to Zevon. Many of us remember Zevon songs being played late at night on "underground" FM stations in the late sixties and early seventies. I'm glad to see that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. Warren Zevon was always hard to pigeonhole. Now go check out some more of work!
Customer Rating: Summary: Genius: Best of Warren Zevon Comment: A super CD, shipped and received as new, as promised. What a great find!
Super music and wonderful liner notes. What a talent.
Customer Rating: Summary: A must for Warren Z fans Comment: Has some Warren Z tunes that will make you leave it in the player just one more time.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good selection of clever songs Comment: This was a good selection of Warren Zevon's clever songs with great lyrics.
Customer Rating: Summary: From a Zevon novice's perspective Comment: Unlike most of you, I knew Zevon had a reputation as a great singer/songwriter but prior to hearing this CD, I wasn't familiar with most of his work. I can't say how close this comes to capturing his finest work in a single volume, but it's very good and I can't imagine there could be much fine-tuning that would make for a better single CD compilation.
Granted, for a guy who's best known as a writer I'd probably axe "A Certain Girl" and Prince cover "Raspberry Beret", but many artists go entire careers without writing a song as witty as "Werewolves" let alone the other gems to be found here like "Carmelita","Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner","Looking for the Next Best Thing", "Reconsider Me", and "Mr. Bad Example".
BOTTOM LINE:
This convinced me I need to hear full albums by Zevon. Since "greatest hits" collections aren't usually compiled for die-hard fans, I'd say that means the CD does its job.
