Customer Rating: Summary: A bit better than OK Comment: I like roots, but this dub disc is mediocre. It's a decent effort overall but there are a couple dogs on there. The Charli-Tuna collab is pretty tight. I like about 60% of this disc.
Customer Rating: Summary: Better than Run Come Save Me Comment: I'm a huge fan of Brand New Second Hand, and although I enjoyed Run Come Save Me I was a little dissapointed with it. It was great to hear Roots Manuva expand his musical horizons, and he came up with some great songs. But as an album, I thought it was unfocused and at times boring. I picked up this remix version of Run Come Save Me cautiously, but as soon as I put it in my stereo it blew me off my feet. Original and creative, it took me back to the simple yet powerfull statements of Roots' first album, while at the same time exploring new and exciting ground. An incredible album, one that makes it clear Roots Manuva is one of the most incredible and original talents today.
Customer Rating: Summary: Unexpected release... Comment: After "Run Come Save Me" and it's creativity, popularity, and critical success, I figured Smith for the kind of guy who would let it all go to his head and try to prove himself with another groundbreaking hiphop album. Instead, he has taken his skills on the mic and the mixer and had some genuine fun creating traditional dub cuts. I'd almost like to remove all the full-verse rap from this album and have a pure dub CD to listen to, but the alternating vocal tracks & instrumental tracks work very well...
Customer Rating: Summary: If you like dub... Comment: A fantastic "remix" album (some new material..even Chali 2na contributes some new lyrics), Roots Manuva has really embraced the dub tradition on this release...something he has been hinting at on his previous two. He lets the album run the gamut from old school Perry-styled hard beats to more contemporary Mad Professor's chaotic rhythms. Some of the tracks are reminiscent of his hip-hop stylings on the "original" "Run Come Save Me" while others are reworked tunes in the classic dub styling.A worthy addition to any dub fan's collection and a must-have for any Roots Manuva fan.

Editorial Reviews:

From his idiosyncratic delivery and left-field lyrics to his rootsy basslines and thumping studio tinkerings, Mr. Manuva has always fancied himself something of a dubmeister, paying homage to his Jamaican roots. Here, he gets to explore his "mixing-desk-as-instrument" ethos to the max, reworking tracks from his recent Run Come Save Me into spectral shadows of their former selves, as well as presenting a few assorted rarities that didn't make it onto the LP. Cuts like "Highest Grade Dub" and "Brand New Dub" are direct descendants of the King Tubby-Augustus Pablo school of smoke-filled trickery, while "Tears" and "Revolution" are more '80s and hip-hop influenced, respectively, but come with deep and dirty dub signatures. Like everything Mr. Manuva turns his hand to, Dub Come Save Me is weirdly sophisticated and serves as an essential companion to the original long player. --Paul Sullivan
