Summary: A Fair Upgrading
Comment: This CD of the Palast Orchester wanders somewhat away from the style that they have used in more famous nostalgic recordings. While all the songs are sung in English (and well-done, too!), the style is really too modern for this orchestra, and I think it hurts the overall effect. Plus, I don't know where the 'super' is in "Super Hits"? The songs mostly seem to be rather pedestrian and lack the flavor of previous ventures. This CD is okay, but nothing special. This is volume number 2; I'd like to know what's on volume number 1.

Comment: I would recommend this cd to anyone. I sort of picked it up as a joke to email clips to friends. The guys accent is so perfect singing these songs. definately for someoe with a sense of humor. listen and laugh!

Summary: Great Party Record
Comment: I recently heard Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester on a local (Philadelphia) radio station and my wife and I were so enamored with this music that we had to order everything of theirs we could find. This album Ein Freund ein Guter Freu was one of three in the first package that arrived today. (I have four more discs which will ship later.) I have to say that "You're the Cream in My Coffee" and "Brazil" themselves are worth the price of the album! But the rest is equally good. There's not a bad track in the bunch!

My wife and I have already listened to all three of our albums.

Don't let the German titles shown here "throw" you. The music and the performances are just great, great, as are the vocals some of which are in English, some in German, and ALL are enjoyable. I do not understand German but so what? Perhaps that's an advantage: one of the songs, sung in German, is titled "Viagra." Raabe is the singer on the tracks that feature a vocalist and he writes some of the music as well. He is quite a talent!

If you have friends who like cabaret music, dance music, or theater orchestras and you invite them over for an evening, you could not find anything better to play than this album (and the rest of Max Raabe's recordings as well). They'll love it as will you. I recommend this and the other Max Raabe albums wholeheartedly.

Sound quality is first-class as well.

Summary: Eclectic collection
Comment: Songs in Max Rabbe's distinctive signature style, imagine you are in a smoky café in the Weimar republic.

Summary: Oddly enjoyable
Comment: I heard a tape of Max Palast while preparing for an SRL show. One of the gems of this album is the cover of Tainted Love.
