Customer Rating: Summary: Blazin' & Amazin' Jilly from Philly ... Comment: I adore this woman! I swear when I first heard of her (from the "Collaborations" CD), I couldn't believe I what I've been missing. It has been about a good 20 years since I've heard vocals like Jill's. This CD ("Experience") is absolutely the best LIVE album of all time! No kidding. This woman moved me and I was not present at her show! I never heard of Jill Scott until last year (2007) when I got her "Collaborations" CD.
Jilly from Philly is a musical gem, one we've all longed for and now we have her.
Jill's vocal range is probably an 8, a rarity in the past 20 years. Sarah Vaughan's and Ella Fitzgerald's range were an 8. For Sass, perhaps 9! LOL Talk about fine singers. Jill Scott's name is up along with Sassy Sarah Lois Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald, First Lady of Song.
You go, Sister Jill. -- an avid fan 4ev'r. AB
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfection! Comment: Jill Scott is perfection!!! Everything about her is so organic. She is the ultimate at speaking to our minds hearts and inner most being. Deep only touches the surface when describing her. I just love this album. Studio albums are great but with a live album you can just feel the music. You can feel her feeling her lyrics. I love it! Nobody like her
Customer Rating: Summary: Music to chill and sip wine Comment: Jill Scott's Live CD is great, there are so many sounds of different instruments and singing. The CD is very Mellow and you could relax, take a bath, chill and sip some wine with the one you love or simply just by yourself. I would recommend this to anyone!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: good concert all the way live Comment: good concert jill scott does'nt get enough props as a singer has a good 70's vibe the horns reminds me of a miles davis session before his acidrock period love it fans of this should also get erykah badu live.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best Kept Secret Comment: This album is a lovely extension of Ms. Scott. This one of the best albums I've heard in a while. Each listener will walkaway with remnants of her soul. Those who comment about the lyrics being explicit or suggstive need to really get a grip on human sexuality. There is nothing tame or angelesque about it. But, her lyrics are insightful, tasteful and creative. But I guess everyone has their level of tolerance. For instance, obsessive cussing is a no for me. Anyways, album is great and a lot of the songs would be good for lyrical/contemporary dance pieces. I'm working on a piece.

Anyone who's seen Jill Scott live knows she's the real deal--a down-home diva more concerned with working a melody or getting her groove on than Britney-fied glitz or Badu-style pride. So it's no surprise that the singer's warmth translates beautifully on Experience, a collection of 11 live tracks recorded at Washington D.C.'s Constitution Hall, plus 6 previously unreleased cuts. With the Headhunters-esque intro of "A Long Walk" that opens the double disc, Scott and her more-than-capable backing band, Fatback Taffy, establish a heartfelt rapport with the audience that comes through not only in their reinterpretations of the singer's tunes, but in the pauses in between. This is apparent throughout, like when Scott notices a pregnant woman in the crowd and says with a giggle, "I see that baby in that belly over there--what's that baby doing?" Or when the Philly native belts the bridge on "Love Rain," intoning the line "You broke me, but now I'm healing" in lush, redemptive timbres. As for the new studio tracks, Scott offers up a set of solid originals that should leave fans plenty satisfied till her new album drops. Tracks like "Gimme," a funk-heavy dance track, and the drum & bass-driven "Gotta Get Up," are about as infectious as they come, while "Be Ready" features Scott's voice at its most gorgeous, her rich alto punctuating the song's syncopations with grace and ease. --Sylvia W.
