Customer Rating: Summary: I dont understand ? Comment: I have read many reviews stating that this effort from Lenny was not in the top ten, but I beg to differ! He is still got that same prince/sly stone/funkadelic/black murda/ fugi/curtis mayfield funk combination that I am used 2.And at the same time being totally original.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lenny Kravitz- Lenny Comment: This album is a true classic. While its not perfect, this album is great because it shows the return of Lenny to his full form. After one horrible album, and one mediocre funk album, he released this album and he returned to his Pop/Rock roots and it really bennefitted him. While first week sales werent nothing to brag about this time around, he at least made an album worth listening to. What really helped this album was the single "Again" which actually wasnt even on this album, it was a new track on his Greatest Hits album released the year before this album. But "Again" helped steer him away from that Funk music, and lead him back into that soft rock style that everyone loves him for. The biggest song off this album is obviously the fan favorite "Dig In" which pretty much just says "Live life to the fullest". But the other standout tracks are the soothing and mellow "Stillness Of Heart", which was cut from the same cloth as "Again". "Believe In Me", which almost has a mid tempo R&B feel to it, and "Battlefield Of Love" which is pretty much a typical Lenny track. But the best thing about this album is that it showed that Lenny returned to full form again, after an almost career ending blow. Its not a front to back classic, but its definetly worth your time if u like Lenny Kravitz.

Customer Rating: Summary: Lenny does it again! Comment: I actually bought this album after buying Baptism and I have to say that Lenny Kravitz has been making many changes. Although Basptism was a very good album, it had many down parts. Lenny tried to sing soft ballads on there that just didn't work. I think that was my only complaint, the rest of the album was solid rock and roll.
This album, on the other hand, is well done. In some ways it's better than Baptism since there isn't one song on here that I don't like. My favorites would be, If I Could Fall in love and stillness of heart but the whole album is great. Lenny Kravitz has really made some good music and he remains one of my favorite rock musicians to this day.
I would prefer this album over Baptism.
Customer Rating: Summary: 100x Better than "Baptism" Comment: LENNY is a great album and has by far better music than his recent material. LENNY has very cool rock ballads, especially 2 that really stand out are "If I Could Fall In Love" & "Stillness Of Heart." I bought this CD just for that. But there is alot more to enjoy with "Believe In Me" and "You Were In My Heart" which has an excellent beat. Lenny Kravitz has an amazing smooth voice and it's just so much fun to listen. I enjoyed "LENNY" more than "Baptism" and "5" combined.

Editorial Reviews:

Lenny Kravitz is known for proudly wearing his influences on his sleeve, but on his sixth album it's clear Kravitz has at last honed a sound he can call his own. Mixing hard rock and ballads, Lenny kicks in with the blistering "Battlefield of Love," a solid rocker with a funk groove. The retro "If I Could Fall in Love" displays a touch of psychedelia, while the Lennonesque "God Save Us All" is bluesy and uplifting. The success of "Again," the smash single from his 2000 hits package, appears to have registered with Kravitz, who surfaces a new crop of midtempo ballads here--all far stronger than "Again." "Yesterday Is Gone (My Dear Kay)" is a finely crafted tune on it's own, yet Kravitz experiments with atypical sounds. The soulful "Stillness of Heart" builds with acoustic guitars and layered harmonies, concluding with a lovely string arrangement. And "You Were in My Heart" mixes synth loops over solid rhythms and a haunting melody. Lenny may seem like an oddly nondescript title, but it's apt; these 12 songs simply sound like the work of Lenny Kravitz. --Gail Flug
