Customer Rating: Summary: Another great alumb on cd Comment: Here is another great alumb on cd if you wondered where the single dancing queen came from it's on this cd.

Customer Rating: Summary: ABBA - 3rd album Comment: ABBA's self-titled album amounted to a kind of comeback. It was not easy following up the Waterloo success of the Eurovision contest. It was about a year-and-half before the next crop of hits came. SOS certainly got people's attention and remains a classic song to this day. It is a good thing they did not call this album Mamma Mia! because it would have taken away from the future stage musical. I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do was kind of a throwback, and I once heard a disc jockey say it reminded him of Lawrence Welk.
Customer Rating: Summary: The album holds up well over the years Comment: It was refreshing to hear this album again. This is a good example of 70's pop done well. It's interesting to hear Intermezzo and realize that ABBA did Trans Siberian Orchestra...30 years before they did.
Customer Rating: Summary: Abba's first great album Comment: Many critics date Abba's ascent to super pop stardom from 1976's "Arrival," but all the ingredients were already there on this album, which surpasses "Arrival" in variety. Lyrically, there are some silly album tracks (as there were on all the early albums), but "Hey, Hey Helen" and "Tropical Loveland" show some real range, delving into rock and reggae. I give this four stars because I feel that Abba's last three studio albums--"Voulez-vous," "Supertrouper," and "Arrival" really are their most complete achievements, but "Abba" is a great classic pop album.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good album...but poor re-mastering Comment: I agree with John (from N.Y.), these 24-bit re-masters of the Abba catalogue were a big letdown. In a side by side comparison, the original discs sounded much better than these. The originals were brighter and plenty full; just like the original album sounded.
On the other hand, these 24-bit discs sound slightly muddy and the high end (which includes acoustic guitars and cymbals) are flat or dead sounding thanks to the no-noise solution. My advice, is to save your money and keep your old discs.

Abba took a risk by launching this 1975 album (their second) with "Mamma Mia." How do you possibly follow that up? Simple--wait two songs and then zoom into "SOS," one of the best pop songs ever written. The rest of the album does not quite reach those dizzying heights, but it's strong nevertheless. Abba is all over the map, as if the band was still putting the finishing touches on its identity. Some songs, most notably "Hey, Hey Helen" and "Rock Me," are sustained by classic glam, Gary Glitter-like riffs. There's also the neoclassical, quasiprog instrumental "Intermezzo No. 1." This CD's two bonus tracks include the rather banal "Crazy World" (the B-side of the "Money, Money, Money" single) and the downright bizarre "Pick a Bale of Cotton/On Top of Old Smokey/Midnight Special." The only cover Abba ever recorded, this medley was recorded in 1975 for a German charity album and was remixed in 1978 for the B-side of the "Summer Night City" single. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
