Customer Rating: Summary: Don Antonio, el idolo de Zacatecas Comment: Antonio Aguilar is one of Mexico's most beloved entertainers, as an actor (167 films), recording artist (163 albums), and equestrian, he is one of the best, and is still going strong as an octogenarian. In this collection of songs from the '80s, he is backed by a rambunctious brass band, and they will oompah pah their way into your soul. There is an exuberant energy throughout that makes this CD one of those happy recordings, that even though many of the themes are sad, manage to lift one's spirits no matter what mood one is in.The shining gem of the CD is the moving "Que Falta Me Hace Mi Padre" (by Raul Osuna Perez), about the loss of a parent. Don Antonio sings it with incredible depth of emotion, and it is one of my all-time ten most favorite songs. Other terrific tracks are the hilarious "La Recien Casada" (Fidel Valadez), about a woman who marries a man too old for her, and "Un Puño de Tierra" (Carlos Coral), about what one takes with them when they pass on is "nothing but a handful of earth". For those who love traditional Mexican music, and want to try something other than the mariachi music usually heard, this is a great CD. The sound is fairly good, but has some rough edges, which is somehow part of its raucous charm; one gets the feeling that the tequila bottle had been passed around a few times before recording. There are no liner notes or lyrics included, and total time is 30'11.
