Summary: The Greatest Latin Band
Comment: I first heard this kind of music almost 30 years ago when I was in my car listening to the radio in Atlanta -- WREK the Georgia Tech student station. This incredibly powerful brass, percussion and singing suddenly jumped out of my radio. I turned it up -- loud. I almost had to pull over and stop. Who was this extremely hot band? The announcer said "That was El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico".
Needless to say I couldn't find any of their records (a vinyl disc with grooves on both sides) in Georgia record stores. Luckily I was in New York a few weeks later, at Tower Records in Manhattan. I asked the guy there "El Gran Combo?" This was the only one they had. Lucky me. One listen to this and I decided then that Gran Combo was the tightest band I'd ever heard, in any kind of music. They still are. Believe me, I've listened to everything, all styles. I wore this recording out years ago. Fortunately I made a cassette tape of it and have recently transferred it to my Ipod. In years since I have listened to other salsa/Latin such as Willie Colon, Benny More, Reuben Blades, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri. None of them can equal the mighty Gran Combo, IMHO. Any one of their recordings is an instant party. They have the tightest brass, the hottest percussion, and the best singers, both solo and harmony vocals. A sonic anti-depressant.

Summary: EXCELLENT CLASSIC!
Comment: I've had this CD since it first came out and that's been over 20 years. It is a timeless piece of art to say the least. I've always said if I were stuck on an island and only had 1 CD to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be it. A must have for all true Boricua salsa lovers, enjoy!

Comment: I have seen them in person singing the songs on this album and for the true salsa fan this album is a must! They are known as the best band in P.R. and here is the proof.
