Customer Rating: Summary: Awe-Inspiring Comment: It doesn't get better than this, folks. Now I see why this CD garners so many positive comments. I don't know much about musical instruments to break this down. But if you are a jazz lover, you must have this CD.
Customer Rating: Summary: One Man, One Piano, One Concert, Saund is like big Orchestra Comment: This Music is harmony of one man. You can feel in big world when listen him. Jarrett like big orchestra in Köln. This sound is still fresh and modern Since 1975. Part I, was very fantastic At Nanni Moretti's film "Dear Diary" . When I heard again Part I of this Concert at the end of The first episode "On a Vespa" I decided to get this Album imedetly. Because it will never be an old fashion sound...
Customer Rating: Summary: Not received II Comment: well I'm waiting for the cd to listen it.
So, at the moment, I can'not give a real evaluation !
Customer Rating: Summary: Wow Comment: I had to replace my LP. A cat that loved to ride the turntable may have had something to do with some scratches. Ya think? I can enjoy it again without having to hop up and move the needle. Now I have a cat, with attitude, that likes to sleep next to the speakers while it's playing. At least she has taste!
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't listen to this Album Comment: Don't listen to this Album. Just Don't buy it. It spoils you. It makes you unable to listen to Keith's other piano works. So buy the others first and if you're done with them, get this one as reward.
This Record really is classic and it's been the most inspiring Piano improvisation to me for many years. It's easy to tune into and gets everybody tuned in easily even those who can't spell "improvisation" and "Jazz". If you're one of those, sorry for insulting you. Get other albums first. Don't buy this one. That day he got a bad Piano that didn't sound good at the high tones. That's really why he stuck to the middle and lower ones a lot. So he isn't even playing on the whole Piano. So don't buy this one at all.
I'd reccomend getting the Carnegie Hall Concert first. Get on Youtube and have a close look who that man is. I've seen ridicoulus Free Jazz Sessions from the 60ies, uninsprired and inspired classics with his trio, a funny classic duo with chick corea. I can proceed to the Köln Concert now. It's nice to see where that man came from and where he went. If you have to get his oh so famous album - this so very classic mainstream concert you'll be humming along in every too silent elevator - first, be sure to put effort into his other works too and not let this one spoil you. It's famous, because it's easy on you. There's more to good music that that and there's more Genius to Keith than you will ever discover by listening to this album alone.

A musical chameleon, pianist Keith Jarrett was at his finest when he recorded these sustained solo improvisations in a German concert hall in 1975, the first lasting 26 minutes, the second 40. Melodies and rhythmic figures arise fluidly from his fingers as he moves from one idea to another, while his strong left hand is often used for repeated motifs that generate a rolling hypnotic power. This couples with strongly consonant harmonies to impart the flavor of gospel music at times, dance musics and Debussy at others. Above all, it's Jarrett's ability to knit all of his moods and wanderings into an almost seamless tapestry of warm and tuneful ideas that gives this music its enduring appeal. --Stuart Broomer
