Summary: Great mellow CD
Comment: This guy may have recorded this CD many years before I discovered him, but his music is timeless. He has a great sound and the guitar playing is amazing.

Summary: Relaxing and wonderful
Comment: I didn't get into the album at first; mostly listened to the title track. But one day I listened to it while stressed out over a test, and kept listening over and over. The songs are lovely, simple, and always leave you wanting more. Nick Drake has a fantastic voice perfectly matched to his songs, which are best heard in a car with the windows down at night, looking at the stars through the moonroof.
My favorite tracks besides Pink Moon are Road, Which Will, and Things Behind the Sun, but all are excellent.

Comment: listen to this music to celebrate life. our time on earth is short. somewhere in the universe there is a special museum with all the artists and musicians who died before their time. They are still making music, nick drake runs the place!

Summary: The Only One You Need...
Comment: Sometimes I wish an artist could keep putting out great albums, or movies, or whatever, over and over and over. But it can't happen. If a singer puts out one GREAT album, I guess I should be happy. This is Nick Drake's GREAT album. You can get his other stuff, sure. But get this first. And know, if this is the only Nick Drake album you ever get, that you have his best. What a great album.

Summary: A different kind of beauty
Comment: Thanks to the magic of the internet, I was able to listen to Pink Moon many times (legally!), and it's the most stripped down album I've ever heard. A soundsystem won't do anything to enhance the music. There is no hidden melodies, and what you hear on the surface is all you get. It doesn't get more stripped down than this. Only one song features a piano, which is the title track. Everything else just consists of Nick Drake, his acoustic guitar, and his thoughts. Really doesn't sound very interesting, I know.
Yet this is the exact essence of one of the meanings of music, putting your thoughts and emotions into music. Nick Drake never felt more stark and empty, so he recorded this. Everything shows that in Pink Moon. Yet while it is empty, there is a beautiful emotion behind it. The right place for this to be listened to is in nature. Nowhere else will Pink Moon will click. Heck, just try blending this album with the ambience of a forest. Focus on the music and what he's saying with the beauty of nature itself. Totally amazing. I get the same feeling listening to this as the same feeling when I sit on a porch in the forest, with nothing but nature, getting this emotion you just can't feel. Why listen to the music that makes me feel this kind of emotion in the place it conjures? Sounds great to me.
The music, of course, will always stand on it's own, no matter where you are. When listening to this, you will forget people and be with yourself. Drake's guitar playing is pretty catchy too. He can make a good melody with his guitar, and it does seem to fit the lyrics well. It's a great thing he makes good guitar lines with plenty of melody, because it's the only thing
While I can't think of anything wrong the music, I just don't feel it deserves the highest score possible. Maybe it's length. Maybe because it's not the greatest thing I've ever heard, or something so _________ awesome. Yes to all of those.
For people who want some music as pure as possible, buy this album. Nuff said.

Pink Moon is the sound of Nick Drake cracking up. That's not exactly true--some have long thought that his death by an overdose of an anti-depressant was an accident, and not suicide--but this album, recorded over two late nights, certainly sounds like a fever dream. Peter Buck of R.E.M. has called the album "Like an English version of (Robert Johnson's great blues) `Hellhound on My Trail.'" The lyrics to the title song read in their entirety: "Saw it written and I saw it say, pink moon is on its way. None of you will stand so tall, pink moon is gonna get ye all. And it's a pink moon." Aside from a splash of piano, the only instrumentation on this stark and spooky collection is Drake's eloquent acoustic guitar. --John Milward
