Summary: Dave Koz: The Dance CD
Comment: This is one of the most beautiful CD's featuring solo saxophone on the market. As a musician (classically trained - clarinet and saxophone), I feel Koz's musicianship is unsurpassed. Tracks 6 and 8 are fantastic.

Comment: This is the first Dave Koz album I have purchased, and I am very pleased with my selection. There is a nice variety of new songs (mostly written by Dave and his brother) and music I was already familiar with (Careless Whisper, The Dance, I'll Be There). I have two new favorite songs - Know You By Heart and You Are Me, I Am You - which just knock my socks off from a romantic point of view. I really enjoyed the various styles of music on this album, and will definitely buy other recordings by Dave.

Comment: Whether you know a little or a lot about Dave Koz's musical style, you will love this CD.Many songs have had radio time on jazz stations so you will finally put a song title to the tunes. If you haven't caught one of his live performances, make room in your calendar.

Comment: Wow, I knew Dave Koz was great, but The Dance CD is now my favorite CD in my collection. He has some of the best musicians in the world on this CD with him. The style and content of this CD is really inspiring. Most songs are upbeat, but a couple songs are very romantic and emotional. My fovorites are the title song, and Know you by Heart, but every song is great!

Dave Koz crosses a number of pop boundaries on this CD, bringing tunes associated with genres from Motown ("I'll Be There") to New Country ("The Dance") into the smooth jazz orbit while somehow managing to put a personal stamp on them all. His perky soprano sax blends beautifully with Luther Vandross on "Can't Let You Go," while he and Montell Jordan add new dimensions to the pure pop of Wham's "Careless Whisper." The collaborations continue with nice guest spots by Burt Bacharach, trumpeter Chris Botti, and David Benoit, while Koz does some compelling and innovative work with multiple overdubbed saxes on the pulsing Latin beat of "Cuban Hideaway." --Adam Rains
