Summary: Amazing Grace-40 Treasured Hymns by Tennessee Ernie Ford
Comment: Amazing Grace: 40 Treasured Hymns-I will take the title of this CD set and call it "Amazing Music" by one of my favorite singers of all time. His voice is always strong and soars about the backup singers. My favorite of the 40 hymns on these two CD's is: "Did You Think to Pray?". On the last chorus of this hymn, Tennessee Ernie takes the bass part and blends it with the backup singers in a way that touches my heart every time I hear it. A purchase of this item is money WELL spent! Bill Joe Nix, Shelbyville, Tennessee 37160

Summary: Awesome!
Comment: Awesome! For many years my husband and I have loved listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford, and we certainly are not disappointed with this collection. It is difficult to find these old hymns and, much more so, to hear them performed as only this man did.

Summary: Amazing Tennessee Ernie Ford
Comment: My brother and I purchased this cd for our mother as a birthday gift. We wanted a cd with her favorite gospel hymns on it, and this one had that, and it was a definite plus that they are sung by Mr Tennessee Ernie Ford. As a child I can remember his voice resonating through our home as he sang on various media, namely, the television shows he appeared on. He had such a wonderful, deep voice, and he sang with such conviction. This cd is a welcome addition to her library of music.

Summary: Good Old-Time Gospel Music
Comment: Tennessee Ernie Ford is one of my favorite baritone singers. This collextion is derived and put together by Bill Gaither and his production staff. T.E.F. had the smoothest voice in early country and gospel music. If you like old-time gospel, you will like this CD.

Editorial Reviews:

Tennessee Ernie Ford's warm, commanding baritone lives on most dramatically in his vivid rendition of the Merle Travis-penned coal miner's song "Sixteen Tons," which topped the national charts in 1955. But by the 1960s, Ford, a leading entertainer in his time and host of an NBC-TV variety show that ran from 1956 to 1961, had turned heavily to sacred music. By the time of his death in 1991, he'd recorded no fewer than 81 albums of gospel and spiritual music. Some of Ford's most memorable hymns are collected in this ample set, which includes both the familiar ("How Great Thou Art," "Rock of Ages") and the relatively obscure ("When God Dips His Pen of Love in My Heart," "Blessed Assurance"). Across the years, Ford's voice continues to echo with heartfelt earnestness and warm reassurance that soothes the soul and transcends the test of time as he magnificently makes these gospel masterpieces his own. --Bob Allen
