Customer Rating: Summary: Good Comment: I became a fan of notwist after their first album and have followed them for three albums--12, shrink, neon golden. Shrink is a great album and continue their experimental atmospheric sounds with this album. This album to me has the best compliments of pop, distortion, rock. The album is a continuous flow of music that deserves compliments in its time period. A true 4 star album.
Customer Rating: Summary: 2.5 stars: Neon Golden it aint Comment: First of all, to the uninitiated, start with "Neon Golden" - a great album that is one of my favorites of the last 5 years. The question is - if you are a fan of "NG" and want more, where to go next. This album is where I went based on proximity in time to "NG" and what I'd read. Well, "NG" it is not. The best songs here (1,2,3,5,6) are the ones that are closest to NG. After that the album begins to degenerate into something less fresh and ultimately boring (the horns on N.L. and Your Signs sound like bad elevator jazz, Shrink bores). In the end, pick it up if you are a huge fan but don't expect too much. Alternatively, I have been happier finding a post-"NG" fix with newer, similar fare (try Junior Boys "last exit").
Customer Rating: Summary: For those who have Neon Golden Comment: I was introduced to The Notwist through Neon Golden. If you enjoy Neon Golden, you really must pick up Shrink. It's a bit edgier and darker, but the humans behind the electronics are clearly felt. Also, there is a definite jazz influence - two tracks are jazzy instrumentals, and one or two others have a heavy influence. It adds a cool liquid tone to the art as a whole. That's really the point I'm driving at - Neon Golden is a day trip to the park, while Shrink is a dip in the lake at night. Having heard both, I now recommend that anyone with either Shrink or Neon Golden should get the other as soon as possible.
Customer Rating: Summary: You simply have to buy this Comment: The Notwist are so creative they make you want to get a bullhorn and tell everyone you respect to PICK THIS UP. I can't imagine somebody being indifferent to this album, or Neon GOlden, though every song on this Cd is exceptionally phenomenal. I hate to compare, and you REALLY can't, but if you liked kid a or amnesiac or even hail to the thief, any autechre and/or are just open-minded to music that defies boundaries, please check this out. It'll change the way you listen to music.
Customer Rating: Summary: I WANT MORE!! Comment: This is without a doubt one of the most phenomenal and creative records I have ever had the pleasure of listening to in my many years as a music fan. I purchased this cd without really knowing what to expect. I bought The Notwist's prior 12 release, which is a solid album on it's own but is really helped by the Loop EP that accompanied it. The album was mainly moderate to heavy rock and definitely had its strong points, but the Loop Ep was a wonderful mix of rock, remix, and experimentation. So when I saw Shrink at my local cd retailer, I figured why not take a chance. And what a lucky move that was. Shrink is experimental rock at its finest. It's a magnetic blend of instrument and technology that touches on various musical styles ranging from indie rock to jazz, and the vocals are both creepy and inspiring. This is a must for any fan of experimental rock such as Radiohead's "Kid A", Doves' "Lost Souls", and Swell's "Everybody Wants to Know". Check out the tracks "Day 7", "Chemicals", and "Electric Bear". I just hope this is not the last we've heard from The Notwist. If you're out there, I WANT MORE!!!!
