Customer Rating: Summary: Camelot (Original Broadway Cast 1960) Comment: I had this LP years ago. This digitally remastered CD has a better sound. The words to the songs are crisp and clear. The music is wonderful. The songs are romantic and listening to them really lifts your spirits. Robert Goulet's performance is at its best. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys good music.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice recording Comment: The broadway production is nice, Burton is Ok but not nearly as good as Richard Harris. I much prefer the video recording of the same musical with Richard Harris.
Customer Rating: Summary: Camelot Broadway Comment: I was disappointed by this CD. I very much prefer the Movie version of Camelot with Richard Harris.
The only positive side is listening to the voice of Richard Burton.
Customer Rating: Summary: gorgeous recording....... Comment: CAMELOT features a beautiful score with some of the most beloved songs in the musical repertoire, written by the team of Lerner & Loewe. They include "If Ever I Would Leave You," a ballad recounting the timelessness of a love affair, though forbidden, that knows no season. The Original Broadway Cast recording features a young Julie Andrews, as Guinevere, Richard Burton, as King Arthur, and Robert Goulet, as Lancelot. The whole cast does a great job recreating the golden time of the mystical world of Camelot, filled with romantic intrigue and scheming sorcery. It's a shame that the original players couldn't have been brought to the big screen when the film version was made. This is the only remnant we have of this amazing show, at its best.

For one brief, shining moment, there was a place known as Camelot--and this 1961 recording is the only document available of JFK's favorite musical, the one that's been used to describe his presidential administration ever since. Truthfully, Lerner and Loewe's musical score for this retelling of the King Arthur story doesn't measure up to My Fair Lady, which was still playing when Camelot opened on December 3, 1960. That being said, the three principals here were stronger musically than their 1968 film counterparts--Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet (who became a star as Lancelot, thanks to "If Ever I Would Leave You") could sing, while the pre-Liz Richard Burton could recite those great lines with Shakespearean flair, even if he never scored a hit with "MacArthur Park." --Bill Holdship
