Summary: One of the best of Blue Note's best
Comment: What a shame that Green didn't receive the recognition he deserved for releases like this one. If he had, he might never have undertaken some of the inferior projects he completed in the late '60s and throughout the '70s until his death. Unfortunately, quality doesn't always get its due, especially in jazz. And make no mistake: "Idle Moments" is a recording of the highest quality. From the intoxicating, dreamy strains of the title tune to the energetic "Jean De Fleur" to the crisply swinging "Django," Green and his band never miss a beat. In fact, the first thing that struck me when I first heard the album was how authoritative they all sounded, and utterly relaxed in their musical exchanges. That feeling added to my surprise when I read the liner notes and found that Green didn't even know vibist Bobby Hutcherson all that well prior to the date.
Well, you'd never know that listening to "Idle Moments." From the opening note of that title cut, the band slips into a groove that it never loses. Green's playing was never better (and he recorded a number of other great Blue Note records), and he is firmly supported by Hutcherson's bell-like vibes. Joe Henderson is in complete control on tenor sax, ranging across a variety of moods from liquid to hard edged, and the underrated Duke Pearson provides a strong anchor on piano.
Nearly any jazz date that brought together the talent in this band would deliver a few memorable moments. On this date, the memorable moments never seemed to end. You'll find that spending time with "Idle Moments" is not time that is wasted. Not in the least.

Comment: Elmo like CD very much! Very good horn playing and the vibes are really neat-o. Duke Pearson was a good arranger--too bad he died so young.

Summary: I'm impressed
Comment: My (limited) experience w/jazz guitarists has been that they're BORING! Even the title track, which definitely seems aptly named, is anything but boring. Great stuff!

Summary: Grant Green IS the GROOVE Master
Comment: Grant green was an unbelievable guitar player. Along with Wes Montgomery, Green gets a lot of play time on my box. While there are many, this is definately one of Green's best. Buy this CD and you will be a Grant Green fan for life.

Comment: If you are going to have only one Grant Green record, this should be it!How can you go wrong with Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson and Grant Green on the same record?!
All the selections are performed at an incredible level of mastery and control (listen to Joe Henderson's solos, its like liquid sunshine). Credit has to be given to the great writing of Duke Pearson for the success of this session (check out his record Wahoo).
