Customer Rating: Summary: Hey not bad, a pretty good album with Santana's best songs. Comment: This is a great album to get yourself started on Santana, its also a great way to listen to his stuff if you aren't that familiar with any of his older songs or just wanna listen to some great classic rock. I knew about the bigger hits like Oye como va and Black magic women but didn't know his other songs except for the new stuff which I'm not particularly a big fan of, his music is great latin flavored rock music with excellent beats and rhythms. This album has great songs like Black magic woman, Oye como va, Jin go la ba (best song ever!), Souls sacrifice and Samba pa ti. The only problem is that its missing a few more great songs like Guajira, Para los rumbereros and Love devotion and surrender I thought why did they do this since it is a best of album. My friend actually has a better compilation cd called Santana:- The ultimate collection which comes in two cds but this album is still good and cheap and the only one I could find at the cd store at the time. You can also get the best of vol.2 along with this album which is available on Amazon which I highly recommend cause Santana had some more great songs that seem to be missing from this cd.
Customer Rating: Summary: What kind of PREJUDICE is this? Comment: Got the cd and immediately (as I often do) open to read credits first. Was intrigued to "get some learning" on the 16 versions of Santana. Of course, I noticed several names that I knew from other acts. but then WOW! It mentions key/vox Leon Patillo as "vanished"? What? Perhaps became for awhile "THE MAN" in another genre (so the speak). Perhaps 2 of the most romantic songs ever written/recorded/covered/sang at weddings he is resposible for -"Flesh of My Flesh" and "Security". But there are soooooo many others. The Definitive Collection
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Album!! Comment: Excellent album--a lot of songs I knew, some I'd forgotten about because they haven't had much airplay since they were originally released (example: "Europa" "Winning" & "She's Not There"), as well as a few I wasn't familiar with but enjoyed anyway (ex: "Samba Pa Ti", "Baila Mi Hermana", "Open Invitation", etc). A must-have for any Santana fan. :)
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm not sure the selections are the group's best, but fairly extensive coverage of timeframe Comment: This is a utility CD for me. I wanted several of the biggies from my old tapes as well as "Europa" and some of the more obscure material. I'm content with the CD, but I'm not entirely sure I would call it the best.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lots of good stuff, some not so great. Comment: The tracks on here range from blockbuster hits to some not so great stuff that should have not even made a "best of" CD.

There are a couple of Santana best-of compilations out there, and even a few mastersound gold-plated CDs, but this collection is as good a place as any for a newcomer to explore. It contains the band's three essential charters--"Black Magic Woman," "Evil Ways," and "Oye Como Va"--along with some lesser hits. Santana broke barriers, making ethnic-influenced music palatable to the mainstream, but this set doesn't sound like a history lesson. Few bands have ever made better music for driving on a hot summer day, and this CD is ideal for blasting out the windows of your car on a crowded thoroughfare. --Charles R. Cross
