Summary: Eydie at her artistic height
Comment: When Eydie signed with ABC she was intent on producing a legacy of albums equal to what Sinatra was doing. All her ABC albums came up with strong themes, great cover art and typography, intelligent song selection (with a lot of surprises along the way), great orchestrations and Eydie herself--not a typical pop singer in any way, not a typical jazz singer either--Hell, I don't know WHAT she was at that point but she was unique and flawless. Each of her albums was eagerly awaited, most were introduced big time on T.V. shows such as Perry Como's and she was at the top of her game. After she and Steve married they became more of a vaudeville act, superb in-person entertainers but their days of being esoteric quickly faded. When she left ABC for U.A. she recorded drek such as a sing along album (good grief). A lot of it was just awful. But they were successful, at the top of the show biz rung. Sigh.

Summary: Eydie is jazz to me
Comment: Iam now a senior citizen but back in my baby sitting days....the parents who were musicians had this on lp and I used to play it over and over while the children slept. I finally bought my own album and loved it. Now I was a hot and heavey Elvis, Fats, Paul, and many other boppers fan but for some reason this album was the greatest to listen to and it will always be one of my favorites....

Comment: Again Taragon presents us with half of a CD [12 tracks] for full price.
Hunt around hard and find the really good best of that's out there by both Eydie & Steve, it is out there if you look.

Summary: A superior "pop" singer, and a set of HIGH standards
Comment: Eydie Gorme has more in common with Sarah Vaughan, than your average 1950's pop singer. Gorme swings, as well as Keely Smith, or Kay Starr, and she has a way with the popular American song. Here on this cd re-issure of her 1st lp, we have 12 gorgeous tunes arranged by Don Costa(who also arranged many of Sinatra's lp's). Gorme gives superior treatment and swings throughout. Gorme truly was a hero to adults in the late 50's, she sang beautiful and swinging music, and maintained her popularity without selling out to rock'n'roll. One of the few artists in the 50's(along with Rosemary Clooney and Tony Bennett), who didn't sell out and record kiddy pop(maybe with the acception of the awful "Blame It On The Bossa Nova", which wasn't exactly Charlie Byrd or Stan Getz' idea of Bossa Nova). This CD is especially recommended to those who don't feel that Gorme falls into the jazz ganere, well she does. Here Gorme is a jazz singer. Well worth acquiring.

Comment: Eydie Gormé is one of the greatest girl singers of all time. Her intonation is flawless, and the stylizations are superb. The selection of material and the arrangements are first-rate.
