Summary: THRAAAAASH!!!!!!................
Comment: You cannot call yourself a metalhead without owning this awesome album it is truly one of the best debut metal albums of all time and is seriously a thrash classic. Bonded by Blood was Exodus's first album and possibly their best, it contains some of their best and greatest songs like A Lesson in Violence, the 7 minute epic "Deliver us to Evil" and the brilliant Bonded by Blood which has these insanely cool lyrics "There's blood up on the stage/Bang your head against the stage!". Exodus was one of the early thrash bands that came from the Bay Area scene and they were definitely one of the most underrated thrash metal groups out there. They formed in 1982 and recorded this album in 1984 but due to difficulties the cd wasn't released until late 1985, when thrash metal music was peaking. The problem was that Exodus never reached the level of success that the other 4 bigger thrash groups like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax had and you could only imagine how big this band could have been if they released this album when it was recorded. Exodus are a 5-piece thrash band with Paul Balof as the lead vocalist, Balof's singing was quite odd but you could definitely feel the anger and aggression in his voice, his singing style was more in your face with lots of screams and he definitely had a unique voice unlike anything else at the time. Gary Holt and Rick Honult both came up with some nice and aggressive riffs that were pulverizing and they came up with these insane and amazing solos that f***'in rocked. Now I'm going to try and describe each track this might take a while so bear with me:

1. Bonded By Blood. After a short intro the title track is straight into the action with a machine-gun paced riff and banging drums by Tom Hunting. This song is rather catchy and the chorus is pretty cool and has probably the best lyrics. Awesome song to start off with and great to bang your head.

2. Exodus. Again like the previous song it goes straight into the action and doesn't mess around. Another high paced riff is met with frenetic drumming even though it can get abit tedious it still manages to thrash and sound aggressive, it's a pretty good song with decent solos and a great riff but not that memorable.

3. And Then There Were None. Well what can I say, I absolutely love this track. It has a simple, slower riff accompanied by some drum fills at the start which sounds similar to Postmortem by Slayer. this song is just perfect the excellent riff and killer solos (especially the first one, it's one of the best on the album) and the faster bit are all great and make this a highlight of the album.

4. A Lesson in Violence. This is Exodus's well known song and it's terrific, I even like the screaming vocals in this. The riffs are extremely fast and is matched with relentless drumming. The solos are up to great standards again but the first one is better, they are both excellent as far as I'm concerned. It was a fairly short song but still excellent.

5. Metal Command. This is one of the best speed metal songs ever. It starts off with a killer riff and great drum work matched with an equally excellent verse riff and the verse is matched with the catchiest chorus on the album, nuff said!.

6. Piranha. This was a pretty decent song, I don't think it caught my attention as much as the others however the drums were hard and heavy as f*** but the vocals were bad still the song from the solos onwards is pretty cool, especially the galloping riff. Pure speed metal, YEAH!!!.

7. No Love. Not bad at all, I really liked the acoustic intro which I thought was a nice touch. It starts off slow and then it has a fast pace and has an excellent level of soloing that doesn't sound like guitar wanking, it's obvious that both Gary Holt and Rick Hunolt are accomplished musicians and don't really show off to the point of pretentiousness and not to mention this track has great basslines by Rob McKillop. The whole group did a great job on this song and the rest of the album.

8. Deliver us to Evil. The epic of the album. Clocking up a big 7:10, it was quite an amazing song and unlike other thrash artists *cough**ahem* Metallica*cough* who compose long songs there is no wussy bits in it. It is fast all the way through with several different, great riffs and some unbelievable soloing (check out the one at 4:22) overall an excellent song that's one of my favorites.

9. Strike of the Beast. The last song is a very cool way to end it. Starting with a tricky riff, it explodes into a frenzy of pounding drums and screaming vocals.I like the vocals in this song they fit very well and the riff at 1:45 is both fast and technical and extremely awesome. This is the fastest song on the album.

There you have it a great first effort by Exodus and an undisputable classic, with great thrashtastic riffs, awesome lyrics and Paul Balof sounding like a demented maniac it was definitely worth owning. This is my current favorite thrash album and it's a must have for any metal fan! check it out!.

Summary: an epic thrash first lp's,legendary thrash classic
Comment: at a time when metallica, slayer, megadeth, anthrax where starting their climb to kings of thrash the most underrated/misstimed release was playing and had a lp full of tunes before metallica was a band/and stoled kirk from exodus.these guys had it together but bad luck/timing.the guitars are crisper than alot of first cd in that era and the drums are insane dave lambardo sounds beat till reign in blood.these guy stood the test of time well never reaching the sucess that they should have but never giving up their chops.they finally got some bigger breaks around the second coming of thrash (testament,heathen,forbidden,vio-lence&death angle)whick they seamed to rise above that class of thrash but could never make the first class status, but they could show you what thrash was about and should sound like done right.check out the live cd another lesson in violence(96)this is what heavy is all about with a 85 setlist with one or two from (87 pleasure)paul bayloff songs.from the band that should have been king comes a sheer brutal thrash classic.check out any exodus cds they all crush.

Summary: Criminally Underrated Group!
Comment: Well, I wasn't born an English Major. And in younger days, I got bitten by the heavy metal bug really bad. I know I'm in the minority, but I did consider "Exodus" superior to "Metallica," "Megadeth," and "Slayer."

I consider "Bonded By Blood" to be a strong, powerful, and consisten record. 'Bonded By Blood' is a powerful opener. 'Exodus' cleverly inserts the name of the group. 'And Then There Were None' keeps the pace of the record up. 'Lesson In Violence' is an especially powerful track. 'Metal Command' and 'Piranah' more than keep the record's strength at maximum levels. 'No Love' is alright. The lyrics on 'Deliver Us To Evil' were a tad overdone. 'Strike Of the Beast' ends the record on a high note.

Overall, this is a powerful record that defines the hair metal style. It also has strong consistency. Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer may be the more popular groups, but if you ask me, EXODUS is much better.
