Summary: fine compilation--as far as it goes, that is
Comment: The Best of '70s Rock Chart Toppers has some great `70s rock on it but I find it a little overpriced; they could have and should have added at least two or three more tracks to this CD. The quality of the sound is good, however, and fans of `70s rock would certainly want to think about picking up this album.
"Hot Blooded" by Foreigner starts the CD off strong with a great, rockin' tune. Those electric guitars are really strong and they perform this tune with passion and all the effort they ever could have mustered! I love it! "Things We Do For Love" slows down the rockin' tempo a bit; this song comes off almost like soft rock compared to "Hot Blooded." 10cc harmonizes very well, however; and this impresses me.
Moreover, listen for Robert Palmer rockin' on strong with his "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor Doctor)." This song is really a highpoint of this album and it still sounds as good as it ever did. "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor Doctor)" is definitely a true `70s rock classic.
ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down" also rocks hard and I always love hearing this song. ELO was quite strong and "Don't Bring Me Down" is definitely one of their better songs. ELO sings it so well and the special effects for the musical arrangement lack nothing--it's THAT good. "Rich Girl" by Hall & Oates does rock; but again after ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down" it sounds much softer than it would if it stood alone--or if it were on another album of tunes that didn't rock quite as hard as "Don't Bring Me Down."
"Hold The Line" by Toto is sure to bring back memories; and the album ends strong with Gary Glitter's "Rock And Roll Part 2." This last one practically became an anthem at sports events and it still gets recognized today by people who were too young to remember it from the 1970s.
My only complaint about this CD is that they didn't add enough tracks; they could have added at least one or two more. I suppose they felt they didn't have to add more because of the relatively low price (at the time of this writing); but they really made a mistake.
All in all, this makes a great CD for newcomers to the classic rock sound of the 1970s. There's some softer rock numbers mixed in with the true-blue rockin' tunes; keep that in mind if you're looking for something that's completely `70s rock. Diehard fans of `70s rock may already have these major hits in their collections.

Summary: Not much variety found here, but still a good compilation...
Comment: It's unfair to criticise this compilation CD for it's lack of content because it's available at such a low-price. Still, only boasting *nine* tracks makes you wonder if Priority Records actually took this album seriously. It's wrong to label this a 'rock' collection too as there's a lot of different musical styles to be found on "The Best Of 70s Rock Chart Toppers". No-one could ever class 10CC, Bonnie Tyler, Gary Glitter and Foreigner as being the 'same'. Even so, this is a worthwhile purchase, and despite my minor criticisms, this CD comes recommended."Hot Blooded" by Foreigner is a good opener, but not one of my favourite tracks by that band. "The Things We Do For Love" by Britain's 10CC is more pop than rock - and the same can be said for E.L.O's, "Don't Bring Me Down". Both are great songs, but should you ever get the chance to hear any of their other songs, you'll agree both bands aren't exactly 'rock'. Robert Palmers, "Bad Case Of Lovin' You" - a track that is sometimes just called "Doctor Doctor" is a perfect example of what soft rock would transform into the following decade. "Rich Girl" by those perennial soft-rockers, Hall & Oates, and Toto's, "Hold The Line" are two other main-stays on 'easy listening' radio stations and should be familiar to you. Bonnie Tyler - the petite Welsh rocker with the powerful voice - contributes to this CD with her "It's A Heartache". This is one example of a singer who was better *later* in her career. "Radar Love", from the Dutch(?) band, Golden Earring, follows. This is nothing special, making it the weakest track on the CD. The album concludes with Gary Glitter's 70s classic, "Rock N Roll Part 2".
There's a few good tracks on here that makes this CD worthwhile, and the low-price makes it worth purchasing. So long as you don't expect anything *special*, "The Best 70s Rock Chart Toppers" will be a welcome addition to your CD collection.
