Summary: Have a nice day! Listen to this even if it's not the best compilation...
Comment: This CD offers ten of the top hits on Billboard's rock and roll chart in 1976. It was a great year for our country with our bicentennial; and the music on this CD really helps to bring back fond memories.
The songs are good and the quality of the sound is excellent. I especially liked "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright; "Love Machine - Pt. 1" by The Miracles; "Let Your Love Flow" by The Bellamy Brothers; "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry; "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" by Elvin Bishop and " All By Myself" by Eric Carmen.
Liner notes include great pictures of the performers--awesome!
I have to make this a four star review because there is no real compelling reason why Rhino Records needed to limit this CD series to ten songs on each CD. The CD weighs in at a little over 35 minutes--why not add a couple more songs? I was disappointed.
Overall, it's a good CD to bring back memories of 1976 but it's far from being comprehensive, naturally, since it's only one CD. The sound is good and I recommend this for rock and roll fans of '70s music. Enjoy! SMILES

Summary: Not bad at all, but not the best.....
Comment: Listening to this album recently, after it collecting dust on my shelf of c.d.s', I realized this isn't the best compliation album I own. Yet, I had fun singing along with and grooving in the driver's seat to the few songs that I actually like on it.
"Don't go Breaking My heart" -- Now there is a great 70's song from the musical genuis of Elton John along with that cutesy overall wearing chick, KiKi Dee(whatever happened to her?) I know all the words to this upbeat tune.
"Dream Weaver" -- All I can think of when I hear this song is the movie, "Wayne's World". A classic smooth one hit wonder.
"Love Machine" -- In all honesty, this song could've been left off this record. I think it is a lousy song, and I am sure there are other songs out there from the year that could've put on here.
"Let your Love Flow" --Another one I know all the words, too. This was played a lot on the radio back in the mid to late 70's. It's a country rock ditty I love hearing again.
"Play that Funky music" -- A DEEMED CLASSIC ...One of the best songs I have ever danced to.It's funky, it's cool, it's very hip to this day.
"Saturday Night" -- I was never a fan of the Bay City Rollers, but I always loved this song, especially after it was used in a Mike Myers' movie, "So I married an ax murderer". Very fun, and again, another one I know by heart.
"Fooled around and fell in love" -- I'm not crazy about this song. There is nothing special about as far as I am concerned.
"I really want to see you tonight" -- Reminds me of my past boyfriends. Again, I know this word for word..I don't know why. I was 7 in 1976, but as the 70's progressed this was one song I still heard a lot and well, i didn't get it, but I liked it anyway.
"All By Myself" -- I never really liked this song, but when Nicole Kidman plays it at the funeral of her husband that she's just had murdered in "TOO DIE FOR", I couldn't help but laugh. That is all I can identify this with now.
"Theme from SWAT" __ HUH? What is this? I never listen to this, I always fast forward back to Elton John & Kiki Dee.This is a totally mixed bag as far as compliations go. I have very few of Billboards albums in my album collection. I highly recommend the year 1979 over this one as I loved every song on that. I like most of the songs on this record, but having to skip anything to get on the next best thing doesn't make me want to recommend it.

Summary: A decent sampling of AM Radio airplay circa 1976
Comment: Listening to this hits collection reminded me that in 1976 I was NOT listening to AM radio, because this is the first Billboard album I have come across where I have only ONE of the songs ("Don't Go Breaking My Heart," courtesy of an Elton John Greatest Hits album) in my CD collection (over 1,200 albums and growing). I think I was into Progressive Rock (Yes, Jethro Tull, Strawbs) in 1976, but that does not mean I do not remember hearing every one of these songs way back when. This album certainly serves up a diverse collection of songs, usually one of the strengths of the Billboard series, with a little bit of pop (Elton John/Kiki Dee and Eric Carmen), a dash of puppy rock (Bay City Rollers), and some serious R&B (Wild Cherry and The Bellamy Brothers). I always liked the cosmic organ on Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver" and the profound sentiments of Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around And Fell In Love." Just do not ask me to explain the national fascination with "The Theme from 'S.W.A.T.'" Bottom line: this album meets my criteria, adding five new songs to my music collection, although admittedly some of them are out of a sense of nostalgia for my youth than because they are truly great songs that have stood the test of time. This album grades out at a 4.5 in Billboard Series and gets rounded up because it personally meets my criteria for hit collections.
