Customer Rating: Summary: One of the first albums I ever bought Comment: The original vinyl double album was one of my first music purchases as a kid growing up in Orange County Ca. I literally wore it out on my cheap turntable. For years I just got by with the memory of how much I loved this album. Last year I came into possession of the CD, and it still shows what a great performer Tina Turner was in her prime. However, while I love it for what it is, the sound isn't as good as we are used to these days, and while Ms. Turner is an incredible perfomer, she isn't a great vocalist, as great vocalist go, but on the other hand she can really deliver on the emotion of a lyric.
The other thing is this is a great example of a bygone kind of show... The "Rock & Roll Review" which started back in the 50's and probably died with the divorce of the Turners.
But here you will find the classic rendition of "Proud Mary," and my favorite version of "Grapevine" as well as my personal favorites from the album, "I've been Loving You Too Long" and the absolute best version of "I smell trouble".
If you love the classic Ike & Tina Turner Review music, you can't go wrong with this CD.
Customer Rating: Summary: The movie ain't got nothin' on dis'! Comment: This was the first album I ever bought in 1998 and I'm glad that it was cuz this is soul/funk/rock at Ike and Tina's best, the movie angela bassett was in as tina ain'tgot nothin' on the real life goddess of rock Tina is. This is explosive and if you can't handle dynamite, don't pick it up!
Customer Rating: Summary: "We never, ever do anything nice and easy"..... Comment: ....begins the delicious, drawn-out intro to "Proud Mary" (now mercifully unsplit between to LP sides like it was way back when).
Unfortunately, judging them here at their coked-out best, they never ever did anything that wasn't padded-out with endless intro and jams. And you will be skipping those dead-weight Ikettes cuts after a single a play
When they catch fire, they burn bright and hard, but this CD is a real advertisement for selective downloading, partic. Proud Mary and Tina's way over the top "Loving You Too Long".
Customer Rating: Summary: Hardest working woman in music Comment: "Ladies and gentlemen, the hardest working woman in music today," says MC Eddie Burke and that is not hyperbole. Tina rocks. Ike rocks. The Ikettes rock. The Ike Turner Band rocks. This concert rocks. My only complaint is that it should have been two discs. I bet there was at least one if not two sizzling encores.
I could go into detail about each song and performance but simple adjectives do not convey the musical talent and experience. The Ike and Tina Turner Review were the best in the business and fortunately we have this concert to educate those who are ignorant or unaware.
This is as good as it gets. The only thing that could be better would have been a battle of the bands between Ike & Tina Turner Review, James Brown, Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis. Or how about Jimi Hendrix jamming with the Ike & Tina Turner Review?
Buy this CD. It will bring you hours of joy.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Definitive Ike and Tina Turner album!!! Comment: This is the album that a trillion years ago got me hooked on the Ike and Tina Turner review. The other reviewers say it all, but I will add that no other live album that I am aware of comes close to capturing such power and excitement. This album is what soul, R & B, and rock and roll are all about.
