Customer Rating: Summary: Totally joyful cd Comment: I cannot believe someone can give this album a low rating. With all the wannabe R&B artists out there getting play time on the radio and someone can say this album was horrible. This has to be one of the best albums I have heard in the new age faces in R&B. he sound nothing like Prince if you want to make a comparison on Rahsaan Patterson he sound more like Raphaal Sadiq than anything. But the styles are totally different yet the voice is so smooth I just can't help but feel emotion. I can listen to this CD from track one all the way till the end of the CD. This is what R&B needs more of artists mike Rahsaan Patterson, Rahreem DuVaughn, Ledisi, Dwele etc. These people need radio play time instead of the music that plays today...
Customer Rating: Summary: A melodic voyage Comment: What took me so long to discover this larger-than-life talent? I'm still digging on this CD so much that I haven't even purchased his Wine and Spirits CD (but I will). The mark of a good CD is when, despite how old it is, it still speaks to you, the lyrics cry out to you and the music is still onpoint. And that's what this CD does for me.
This was a much worthwhile purchase. I'll purchase his Christmas CD next.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great CD Comment: Great Vocals and Very well written Lyrics. Music and songs are original !! A very different musical experience. You will want to play this CD over and over and over.
Customer Rating: Summary: First time listener Comment: This album is incredible! I missed it when I was overseas and every since I heard his recent album, I've been hooked. This is wonderful! Neo-soul! Love this CD!!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: But... Comment: Well produced and executed, obviously talented boy, but the influences of Prince are all over that I could barely listen to this album (I like Prince and that is the problem).
This is neither very original nor too inspiring.

Stevie Wonder's influence is especially obvious in the music of 23-year-old Rahsaan Patterson, who not only imitates the syncopated keyboard phrasing of his hero's records but also impersonates Wonder's vocal tone as well. Sometimes the similarities are too close for comfort. Fortunately, Patterson comes up with chorus melodies that sound as catchy as his model's without sounding like any Wonder song in particular. "Stop By" uses old-fashioned wah-wah guitar and slap-funk bass to create a compelling push-and- pull rhythm that the singer elaborates into a giddy chorus of infatuation. "Joy," Patterson's a cappella tribute to his New York church roots, finds the young vocalist holding his own with the singers of Take 6. Even the three numbers that Patterson didn't cowrite boast strong, Wonder-ful hooks, but the best are found in the seven songs cowritten by Patterson and his keyboardist Jamey Jaz. --Geoffrey Himes
