Customer Rating: Summary: BaJa Chris Isaak Comment: I got two of these Baja sessions. I give one to my brother and he really enjoyed it as much as I. It does make a great Christmas present. My favorite song is... I Wonder... Thanks so much... Rowdy Yates
Customer Rating: Summary: Song caught my attention in a movie Comment: I heard "I Wonder" being played while watching the movie Fools Rush In. I rewind it and listened to it again. It is an incrediable song so I went to the credits to see who sang it. Went and purchased the CD and it has become one of my personal favorites.
I had never heard his music before but now have several of his CD's. This one is still my favorite. Very smooth and cool. I Wonder is still my favorite song and have since heard it in other movies.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easy to listen to Comment: A co-worker had brought in this CD to play at work; I liked it so much I got my own copy. There's not a bad song on it, reminds me of Elvis and Roy Orbison. Very reflective and nostalgic, and its good.
Customer Rating: Summary: Change of Pace Comment: After working through some serious issues on "Forever Blue," this was kind of a surprise release the following year. Some delightful re-interpretations of his own work and some covers, notably a glistening version of "only The Lonely." Not seminal work, but a very nice album.
Customer Rating: Summary: My favorite Isaak album... Comment: ...and that's saying a lot. I'll admit it, I'm an unabashed Chris Isaak fan, from the music, to the movie appearances (small and cameo as they may be) to the show, which was vastly underrated as a odd, dialouge driven gem.
But, this is an album review, not an Isaak retrospective. My problem with most Chris Isaak albums is not the individual tracks, but the lack of cohesion in the overall album. I'm not one to criticize an artist for taking risks, but most of his albums have a tendency to skip around sometimes, and thats not to say I dont love 'em anyway. But, an album like Baja Sessions is, from start to finish, a south-western, chilled, beachy, Corona-fueled timepiece that sticks to its sandy roots. This is the soundtrack to your tiki-torched backyard barbeque.

Editorial Reviews:

Chris Isaak's Baja Sessions was inspired by a surfing trip the singer took with his band to the Baja California section of Mexico. As the salt in their hair dried in the sun, the four musicians sat around with acoustic guitars and a small drum set, and played some tunes from Isaak's previous albums, some of his unrecorded originals, and some of his favorite old songs by the likes of Roy Orbison, Gene Autry, and Arthur Lyman. The quartet so enjoyed the laid-back, mostly acoustic, Spanish-tinged flavor of these vacation jams that when they got home to the Bay Area, they recreated them in the studio. Baja Sessions is like an Unplugged album, except the sun-drenched, south-of-the-border mood gives these remakes a far fresher twist than most such projects. --Geoffrey Himes
