Comment: T.E.V.I.N. - IS ONE OF THE BEST DEBUT CDs BY AN ARTIST. THIS CD IS THE "BOMB"! I WOULD HAVE TO CLASSIFY IT AS A "MASTERPEICE" AS WELL AS "I'M READY". IF YOU DID NOT KNOW THE BIO OF TEVIN CAMPBELL, BESIDES BEING A GREAT ARITIST, THAT HE WAS ALSO AROUND 14 OR 15 (MAYBE YOUNGER)WHEN HE RECORDED THIS PROJECT. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THAT YOU COULD TELL THIS WAS A KID SINGING THESE GREAT ADULT SONGS! THE VIDEOS ARE ENJOYABLE TO WATCH, TOO! HE PERFORMS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM VERY WELL. AGAIN, TEVIN HAS SUCH AN AMAZING VOICE EVEN AS A CHILD PRODIGY, HE HAS BEEN THE GREATEST EVER BESIDES "MJ". AS TEVIN MATURED, HIS VOICE REALLY KEPT UP WITH HIM. APPARENTLY HE HAD VERY GOOD VOICE TRAINING OR HE HAS A WONDERFUL AND SPECIAL GIFT FROM GOD.IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I HAVE IT ON MY IPOD AND MP3 PLAYER AND I STILL LISTEN TO IT TODAY! THERE ARE THE GREAT TALENTED WRITERS AND PRODUCERS; QUINCY JONES, AL B. SURE, PRINCE, NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN, ETC. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! ANOTHER PERFECT 5 FOR MY BOY, T.E.V.I.N. !!!

Comment: GREAT CD! TEVIN CAMPBELL is such a great artist; singer, dancer, and ALL! He is such a talented and gifted young man. Even today his music still sounds great! I listen to all of his CDs all the time...over and over and over. As-a-matter-of-fact some of the sounds now are some of the sounds he produced back in the 90s. The new entertainers coming alone now are only dancers and not singers. Tevin is a NATURAL and could hold his own. Of course he understudied with the best! Quincy Jones, Prince, Al B, Babyface, Narada Michael Walton and others. I had never heard such a young kid sing like Tevin before and to have worked with much senior people, he was absolutely fantasic! You can understand EVERY word he sings and he hits EVERY note without missing a beat. He was definitely a "child protege" who was .... I think ahead of his time! I'm hoping Tevin is headed back in the studios soon to give us some more of T.E.V.I.N! I know he's still got it, because someone said they saw him in the stage play Hairspray and that he could still really sing! I was very impressed to hear of such a great review. Hurry back Tevin! We MISS you! We LOVE you! God Bless and please don't let your precious gifts and talents go to waste. I would recommend ANY and ALL of Tevin's music.

Summary: Why hasn't this Artist a Major label deal?
Comment: Upon tuning in to the 2007 New York City Marathon, who did I happen to see & hear performing the national anthem, live to the world? One Tevin Campbell. I have often wondered what has happened to him, down the years.
This is his first, and to my mind, his best,CD. After this, most of his releases seem to deteriorate (I do wish that 'Can we talk' was on this release rather than I'm Ready, which, this track apart, is a rather disappointing joint) I purchased this upon release, but, like many of my CDs down the years, seems to have gone for a walk.
What makes this such a good CD? Well, firstly Mr. Campbell then (and now) can sing. At the time of this release his voice hadn't broken, and I have read that he doesn't like to hear his voice, pre puberty. When given half decent material to work with, this man is like the postman, he always delivers. Want proof? Just listen to: 'Just Ask Me To', the new jack sounding track which is also featured in the movie Boyz 'N' The Hood
'Just Ask Me To'( and also features a great cameo appearance from Chubb Rock, with production by Al B Sure) The full blown ballad 'Tell Me What you Want Me To', the funky 'Little Brother', the mid tempo '( and one of my favorites ) 'Alone with you' and the great 'Goodbye', with it's Soul 2 Soul beat, 'Perfect World', 'Confused', Look What we'd have( If you were mine). I mean mid tempo, upbeat or quiet storm, this man (or 14/15 year old as he was at the time) can produce the goods no matter the requirements of the song.
Whilst good, this CD just falls short of being great due to some filler material ( Round & Round, which I think was written & produced by Prince , Strawberry letter 23, & she's all that) but I could be accused of being a bit hard.
None the less, 16 years later, and this CD still packs a punch, and leads me to the question: Why isn't this man producing music on a major label? Or any label? His personal problems have been well documented, but, upon the evident of his performance at the New York marathon, he's still got the pipes for the job. One despairs at a music industry that has no room for the Johnny Gills, Jason Weavers, and Tevin Campbell's of the world. It just goes to show that talent isn't enough, It's who you know!

Comment: Now what pre-teen/teenage girl during this era wasn't in love with Tevin Cambell? Despite his outcome, hands down, the boy sang some great tunes! Brought back childhood memories, played it for two months straight alongside "I'm Ready!"

Summary: My "T.E.V.I.N" review
Comment: The first time I heard a Tevin Campbell song, I know what an extraordinary talent he was. He has such a grand voice. So often, people blessed with great voices such as his have little or no control of their vocals. Not Tevin Casmpell. He has really good control of his voice and knows when to hit which note. He has an impressive debut LP. The producers (who included Al B. Sure, Qhincy Jones and Prince) did a nice job, even though many of his songs sounds dated. Usually this is a big deterent when trying to enjoy an older album, but it was not a big problem. The sound of this album actually took me back to the time it was released (1991).
"Just Ask Me To", "Lil Brother" and "She's All That" all have similar sounds: they all sound very dated. I didn't really enjoy none of these songs, they just sounded like fillers. "Confused", on the other hand, is a very nice song. I enjoyed every second of this song. I love the arrangement of the chorus, how the notes fluctuate. Vocally, this song is also wonderful. "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do" is another album highlight. This is an excellent song throughout. The production, lyrics, and naturally, the vocals, are all something to remember. Tevin lets his talent simply shine on this song. His falsettos will just make you melt. Tevin has a song on here entitled "One Song". This is another impressive number. This song is about how one song can change the world. "Round and Round" was produced by musical genius Prince. This song has the typical Prince sound. Anyone who is even remotely familiar with Prince knows that when he produces a song, people will know it simply from the sound. "Perfect World" is a cute love song. The chorus is worth mentioning; "Since I met you, it's such a perfect world..."
I really enjoyed this album. It's nice to know that you can put music like this in and be reminded of earlier times in your life.
