Summary: Dynamite Combination........
Comment: LSG (Levert, Sweat, Gill) came together and made a smooth soul classic. Mainstream grooves like "Door #1", "My Body" and the cover "Curious" helped the album standout while cool jams like the sensual "Round & Round", "Drove Me To Tears", "Love Hurts" and "Where Would I Go" are great album songs. This is a great debut for this veteran soul-singing supergroup.

Summary: Still a wonderful album from three hot R&B singers
Comment: LSG's first album from 1997 is still a wonderful album! I liked the collaborations with people such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Faith Evans, Coko and others featured in the songs. But they smartly hold back and let Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill perform on here. I still love the No.1 hit, My Body, which I still hear to this day! Darrell Allamby created a very smooth ballad for them. Door #1 has this Let's Make a Deal kind of thing in its lyrics as each of the singers sing their verses in three parts of the song. After that is the smooth ballad Round and Round of which Johnny sounds the best on that one. Love Hurts is where Keith Sweat sounds the best and My Side of the Bed and All the Times are where Gerald Levert is at his best. While they went with people such as Puff Daddy, Ron Lawrence, Jermaine Dupri and others, Levert and Sweat produced an average of 3 to 4 songs each on this album. So this is more a group effort too more than just relying on outsiders. But the album has such strong singing from the trio while riding on the challenging urban sounds that dominate the album. I liked their funky numbers of You Got Me, Let a Player Get His Freak On and a remake of Midnight Star's Curious. Their main strength is on the ballads. If you missed out on this album in 1997, you need to get it now in 2005 and 2006! And while their second and last album flopped, this first one still holds up quite well today!

Summary: The best R&B album not only of '98, but maybe of all time!!
Comment: If you don't have this album, it's not too late to get it. There is not one wack track on this album, although the trendy "Let a Playa Get His Freak On" comes pretty close (but even that track can grow on you). Sure, you have the necessary superproducers on here (Puff, JD, Missy), but they do a good job with providing the group with solid material, which is good for Johnny Gill, who's recently had the problem on his solo albums with singing lackluster lyrics over boring instrumentals. If there are any songs that are better than the others, they have to be the ones Gerald Levert wrote and produced ("Door #1", "Drove Me to Tears", and the standout, "My Side of the Bed"). And the fact that this album is under 60 minutes shows that Levert, Sweat and Gill can deliver the goods without the use of skits, medleys, interludes, or remixes of their songs on the same album.
Now if only we can get them to make another album to show these dumb boy bands like B2K and Ruff Endz how to do it...PLEASE? Come back, it's been four years!
