Summary: Keith Sweat Found Forever
Comment: Keith Sweat's debut album from 1987 is nothing short of excellent. Here we find a young Keith Sweat singing his amazing slow jams, full of emotion, intensity and mostly dealing with intimate relationship. Produced by a then quite unknown Teddy Riley that made this album his blueprint for the patented "New Jack Swing" style that combined R&B with Hip Hop beats. The sub-genre would be dominating the R&B scene til the mid 90's and it spawned followers such as R. Kelly's Public Announcment, Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, Blackstreet, Boyz II Men and obviously Riley's own band Guy that populized New Jack Swing the following year with their debut Guy and Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel that further expanded the popularity of the music. Out of the 8 songs here we find both typical slow jamz and catchy midtempo's but always with the same message. Just like other reviewers pointed out, Keith Sweat may not be remembered for his vocal capacity but he makes the best out of what he got and always giving alot of intensity and emotion, which makes him one of the finest Slow Jam singers of his generation. And who can not see themselves in some of the lyrics here?. "Something Ain't Right" about the fear of a girlfriend cheating on you and "Don't Stop Our Love" about the desire to meet your girlfriend after a long day at work and then the title track love duet with Jacki McGhee about wishing wonderful love feeling will last forever and "Right And Wrong Way" (recently covered by Mario on Go is one of my alltime favorite slow jams. His only big Pop hit was however the Bobby Brown sounding "I Want Her" that recahed #5 but I think it's the weakest song here. The other songs are good here including a stunning cover of the Dramatics hit "In The Rain" and "Tell Me It's Me You Want" and "How Deep is Your Love". The running time is just over 40 minutes but you got everything you'd ask for during that brief playing time. Sweat/Riley wrote all new songs together on this album and with the release of this album they had set the tone for the upcoming half decade of R&B. If you're further interested in Keth Sweat, also check I'll Give All My Love to You and his self titled 1996 album Keith Sweat. Classic and highly influentual album that should be part of every R&B collection.

Summary: Still his best album
Comment: One of the great pioneers of new-jack swing, Keith Sweat (whose real last name is Crier) came on the scene at just about the time that NJS was starting to emerge, and despite this being one of the sub-genre's first such albums, it remains one of the best. He hit big with the upbeat "I Want Her", and despite not being one of his hits, the gorgeous ballad "Right And A Wrong Way" is frequently played on my local classic soul station. His steamy rendition of The Dramatics' "In The Rain" is also first-rate.

Summary: a Classic from Keith Sweat
Comment: this album was the one that got New jack swing truly kicked into full gear. Keith Sweat and Teddy Riley were unstoppable together on this New jack Swing classic. I want her is still the jam. the smooth classic title track is timeless. something just ain't right is a banger as well. this album feels just as fresh now as it did twenty years back. Keith Sweat could make a jam about Cow Milk and I bet cash money that a Cow would start to overflow because Keith can Beg like nobody's business,but make it work.

Summary: Make It Last Forever.........and ever
Comment: I am not the biggest Keith Sweat fan but this is by far the best LP he put out. Standout songs include "Right and a Wrong Way", "How Deep is Your Love", "I Want Her", "In the Rain" and the title track. This a New Jack Swing classic by perhaps the genre's best singer.

Summary: Excllent Debut That Has Yet To Be Topped
Comment: As a DJ my favorite type of music hands down in New Jack Swing. In the years from 1987-1888 it seemed that every New Jack Swing CD that was released was A-1 and was the type of disc you could put in and let ride out to the last song. Produced by Teddy Riley, Mr. Sweat Debut contains the still classic club bangers I Want Her & Don't Stop Your Love as well as the ESSENTIAL slow jams Right & Wrong Way, How Deep Is Your Love, Make It Last Forever and the Dramatics cover In The Rain. It's no seceret that Sweat isn't the best singer but with his classic debut he earned his place in the New Jack Swing Hall Of Fame.

When I first heard "I Want Her" from this 1987 recording, I dropped what I was doing and ran to a record store. The single is the prototype for what Teddy Riley, who did the drum and keyboard programming on the song, would call "New Jack Swing." It has hip-hop's rhythmic chatter and R&B's fierce uptempo drive. Although Riley contributes to most of the songs on this disc, Sweat has a different direction in mind. He aspires to be--and with future releases became--the king of the slow jam. His warm, deep tenor and his intelligently crafted songs set the standard for the pre-Maxwellian loverman. --Martin Johnson
