Summary: A fitting finale
Comment: As the final installment of the Moody Blues' classic seven LPs, 1972's "Seventh Sojourn" reflects a very mature band. Comfortable with where they've been and how they make music, they ease back here on experimentation in favor of simpler melodies.

Make no mistake, though. This is a masterpiece, beginning to end. From Mike Pinder's social thought-provoking "Lost in a Lost World" to Justin Hayward's uplifting "New Horizons" to Ray Thomas' sea shanty "For My Lady" to John Lodge's tearful "Isn't Life Strange?" to Pinder's wartime conscientious objector tale in "When You're a Free Man" to Lodge's rockin' "I'm Just a Singer."

I get the feeling they all decided to just be themselves this time, to say what was on their minds and in their hearts in one of those "I've always wanted to..." moments. It's as if they knew this would be the last of the lineup's greatness in sound.

As a result, the beauty of "Seventh Sojourn" is its simplicity, and especially cool are the transitional notes linking songs, notably "New Horizons" to "For My Lady" to "Isn't Life Strange?" You'll need to turn up the volume a bit to catch Thomas's flute tying "When You're a Free Man" to "I'm Just a Singer."

In all, this album, like Phil Travers' cover art, reflects the band's unmatched talent for painting pictures through music.

For this Moody Blues fan, it doesn't get any better.

Summary: best of 'the seven'
Comment: I've liked The Moody Blues since I can't remember when... All of the classic seven albums from 1967 to 1972 have great songs but, for me, this is their finest and most consistent - it flows really well from start to finish and leaves you wanting more.

For one thing it contains my absolute favourite Lodge compositions 'I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)' and 'Isn't Life Strange' - sure, these songs are available on every Moody Blues hits collection, but it's great hearing them in context...

Also, if you like this album it's well worth your while giving 'Blue Jays' by Justin Hayward and John Lodge a listen. It was released a couple of years after Seventh Sojourn, and even though it's not a Moody Blues album as such, it's a more worthy 'follow-up' than 1978's Octave.

Summary: A Special Sojourn for a Special Soul......
Comment: Mathyushkin got married. Yes he did. He is a close relative of your beloved Metamorpho. Young, vital and red headed, he was handsome and stole the show from your Metamorpho (if you can believe that!). I thought it best not to explain the pitfalls and pratfalls of marriage to a heart that goes pitter-pat. He married the lovely Christabelle, who was postively ravishing. The ceremony had all the great ingredients that your Metamorpho has been offering the public for years. The true essence of love, spirituality and blessings. It was a baronial event and I felt the spirits of pure harmony there. Beautiful and uplifting.

Unfortunately for me,to my surprise, the evil Suzabella (Witch of the Shore) and Robehr Sedivekkian (Warlock extraordinaire) were there as well. You remember them? They were my enemies in the Seer war years ago. I should have known something was wrong when my cheerios became soggy too quick and all my crops dried up. Well, at least we buried the hatchet for this special day, (even though I was frantically looking for a way to dig it up!). Only kidding.... I think. Regardless, the day was a day for all days. Sunshine, mild weather and joyous celebration. This is the way it should be.

Anyway, I needed some time to write a special review. I have settled on the Moody Blues excellent c.d. "Seventh Sojourn". Why? 7 is a good luck number and one of their best efforts bar none, if you ask me. What we have here, again and so sucessfully, are compositions dedicated to the elevation of mankind. Aspects and vision and realizations about your inner world and the need to rise up to a higher spirituality. This is not to say that there are not love odes here. "For My Lady" is certainly a nice sing-song, seafaring tempo, however the subject matter in most of the songs convey hope or a quagmire that we all face.

The amazing yearning beat of "Lost in a Lost World", for example, yields a plea to mankind to forget the illusions that they believe seperate us all. In essence, we are all interconnected with a "family tree that's longer than a centipede", and that we all are, after all, just children in this vast universe. The lovely beauty and wispful regrets of "New Horizons" reveals a man who goes forward but takes with him, and appreciates the "special gift" he has been given. But, even here, we see the search continues for everyone to find that "peace of mind someday". Wonderful.

You will find, with the Moodies, that alot of tunes are either clear to you or you must work to find the truth in them for yourselves. There is much pomp and undulation with "Isn't Life Strange". However, again, the motif here is the love, personal and outward, that we all need to strive for. With the jutting rythmn of "You and Me" is the message of universal harmony. The ability to achieve this, after all, resides in you and me.

Questions.... questions.... questions. But, what is the answer? In "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", they admit they do not have the answer to your personal journey. The slow building drumming leads to a running beat that shows you that, to evolve, you need to find the answers within. After all, isn't this the essential project for everyone on this earth? The Moodies give you the elements. It's how you shape them to your own reality that matters here.

The rare eloquence portayed in many of these songs, I feel, make it one of their best efforts. It has beautiful thoughts and positive vibrations throughout. Yes, even with all that darkness out there. They make the hard task of survival an obtainable goal. Listen and you will see. An extraordinary effort of grace and polish that belongs in everyone's pop-rock archive. This has always been a special one for your beloved Metamorpho. I hope it is for you too. Lucky 7. I pray that Mathyushkin will eventually "see" and be the Seer that I've taught him to be.

This review is dedicated to my son, Mathyushkin. May the angels always be by your side to accompany you through your life.

Love, your Dad, Metamorpho ;)

Summary: LOST IN A LOST WORLD
Comment: THE THING ABOUT THE MOODY BLUES IS THAT THEIR MUSIC WAS JUST SO DAMN MELODIC, IF NOTHING ELSE. THAT'S WHY THEY WERE ALWAYS ENJOYABLE TO LISTEN TO. THIS ALBUM WAS THE LAST OF THEIR ORIGINAL SEVEN ALBUMS, RECORDED BETWEEN 1967-72, WHICH CONSTITUTE THE BEST AND MOST ORIGNAL PHASE OF THEIR RECORDINGS. I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT, AND HAVE LISTENED TO IT A LOT OVER THE YEARS. THEY WERE DIFFERENT FROM MOST OF THE OTHER BRITISH ROCK BANDS THAT WERE AROUND AT THE TIME, NOT BETTER, BUT DIFFERENT.
