Customer Rating: Summary: Fast efficient service Comment: I would order from this store again. Fast efficient service. What you look for online.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Comment: After seeing the 5th performed at Lincoln Center, I searched for a recording of it that was rated well. Definitely an up tempo interpretaion but I really enjoy it and thank others who recommended it.
Customer Rating: Summary: A staple in any classical music library Comment: There is really no point in expanding any further on what has been said by the other reviewers, other than that those few who gave this recording less than 4 stars don't have a clue. I don't personally know anyone who wouldn't rate each of these performances in the top 5, if not first choice. For me, I may, on occassion slightly prefer a couple of Furtwangler's or Weingartner's recordings, but these by Kleiber are truly top-notch classics. I will say that Carlos' father (Erich) had an equally impressive (maybe better) performance of No.5, currently available on Decca, paired with a really good No.3.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Seventh, ok Fifth Comment: This was supposed to be the greatest Beethoven Fifth ever recorded. It was fine until the fourth movement. Then it became a funeral march. Give me Reiner or Szell anytime. However the Seventh was excellent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Symphony 5th and 7th Comment: What I could say about this album...excellent recording quallity performed by Deutsche Gramophon. Besides the recording quallity I could say...just Carlos Kleiber...Somehow he creates a magic atmosphere. It is like you are into the music itself. Buy these, you will be satisfied.

Editorial Reviews:

Long regarded as the quintessential interpretation of the most popular and best-loved symphony ever written, this performance of the Fifth has everything: passion, precision, drama, lyric beauty, and a coiled fury in the first movement that sets your pulse racing from the very first note. Carlos Kleiber has made very few recordings in his distinguished career, but almost all are special. If you own no other copy of this symphony, this is the one to get. It comes with an exceptional performance of the Seventh--not quite as gripping as the Fifth, but definitely one of the great ones. There is classical music, and there are classic recordings of classical music. This one's a classic. -- David Hurwitz
