Customer Rating: Summary: Bill Doggett and his combo Comment: I grew up listening to Bill Doggett on 45rpm records from my parents record collection. I was glad to locate this on cd, because it brought back memories of my childhood and my father who has since pass on.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Facts Belie The Title Comment: This is yet one more release purporting to include "all" of someone's hits - and then proceeds to overlook these 4 legitimate entries from his King label offerings - Leaps And Bounds Part 1 [# 13 R&B in 1958], Rainbow Riot Part 1 [# 15 R&B in 1959], Monster Party [# 27 R&B in 1959] and Yocky Dock Part 1 [# 30 R&B in 1959] - while at the same time including 6 that were not hits by any definition of the word, i.e., tracks 1 to 4, 7 and 8 (nor were they even the flipsides of any of his hits). Each is from an album.
A much better option would be the King Records release 28 Big Ones, although in that instance there are no liner notes at all whereas this one does contain a single page of background information, and the sound quality is equally as good. And it certainly would have rated 5 stars with the simple inclusion (in place of some of those album cuts) of those 4 missing hits plus the 1961 overdubbed version of Honky Tonk Part 2, also for the King label, which reached # 57 Billboard Hot 100 that February.
Customer Rating: Summary: Honky Tonk............pure Sax Comment: Excellent Jazz/blues music from the 50 and 60 "s Chicago Style. Bill Doggett is a briliant Sax player. If your feet do not start to move while listening to this music then the blood in your veins is not flowing properly.
