Customer Rating: Summary: Could have been so much better Comment: I was lucky enough to have seen Queen live on four separate occasions (1977, 78, 80 & 83) Amazing shows! It is quite different when you are actually there as opposed to listening to a live recording.
This CD is OK. The performances range from good to lackluster. If you are looking for the sound they make in their studio releases you won't find it here. What you will find is more of a rendition of their 70's work. They rework most of their material so that they can perform it live without much difficulty. Sometimes it works well, other times you feel disappointed. (The medley part is a big disappointment for me)
It says that this CD was "Remastered" but after comparing it to the original vinyl release, it sounds exactly the same. The original mix was not all that good anyway. It tends to sound dull most of the time. Also this is not a complete show. "It's late" & "Fat bottom girls' are not included.
Customer Rating: Summary: If you are not so fond of Queen's studio-albums, try this "Live Killers"-album Comment: I never was so fond of Queen the way they sounded studio-like.
When I bought their album "Queen Live Killers" in 1980, however, this only confirmed my opinion that Queen is an excellent live-performer of the songs which had seemed so dull, with all due respect, in the first place before hearing the "Live Killers"-album.
Therefore, I pay my respect to Queen's studio-albums of the 1960s-1970s including the "Live Killers"-album which forms an indispensible kind of bridge between the old and new Queen to come.
Customer Rating: Summary: Arguably Queen's finest hour live Comment: Queen released their first live album Live Killers in July of 1979.
The album was the band's first double live album and was their sixth attempt of recording the band's live show as they had recorded shows at The Rainbow Theater in London in late 1974, the classic Hammersmith Odeon shows Christmas Eve 1975, Hyde Park in London in September of 1976, Earl's Court in London in June of 1977 and The Houston Summit in Houston Texas in December of 1977. Apparently, only one has been officially released which was the Rainbow on VHS in late 1992 in the UK although Earls Court and Houston 1977 deserve legitimate release.
The Live Killers album was recorded in early 1979 in Europe on the band's Jazz tour and produced by the four Queen members. Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that Queen were a superior live band to studio. I prefer this album plus the We Will Rock You DVD filmed in Montreal (now known as Queen Rock Montreal) in 1981 and On Fire at the Bowl over Live at Wembley Stadium as Live Killers, On Fire at the Bowl and saw a young and hungry Queen.
The Live Killers album had a rocked up version of "We Will Rock You" to kick the album off which was released as a single here in the US but stiffed. Other highlights of this album include "Let Me Entertain You", "Spread Your Wings", "Now I'm Here", "Brighton Rock", "Don't Stop Me Now", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Love of My Life" (a Top 20 single in the UK) and the closing "We Will Rock You"/"We Are the Champions" medley.
The other tracks are the medley of "Death On Two Legs"/"Killer Queen"/"Bicycle Race"/"I'm in Love With My Car"/"Get Down Make Love"/"You're My Best Friend" (all tracks are indexed separately on the CD), the unplugged "Dreamers Ball", "'39", "Keep Yourself Alive", a rocking "Don't Stop Me Now", a spirited "Tie Your Mother Down" and "Sheer Heart Attack" all rock superior than its studio counterparts.
The Live Killers album peaked at #16 in the US and went Double Platinum with ease as Queen were huge here in America when this album first emerged.
I first received this CD in May of 1992 and what a purchase. If you want the best of live Queen, look no further.
This album is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Customer Rating: Summary: Live Killers just rocks!!! Comment: This is a great live cd. I mean, it was just an awesome show. There was one tiny problem. Some of the cd sound like it was faded or something. Maybe at the time was recorded, the group didn't have great eqiupment or the sound quality wasn't good. Other than that, it's a great cd!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: A great live album.. PERIOD! Comment: Ok for starters I agree that most live albums are not all that good b/c of all the excess loud speaker sound vocals but lets be honest here... this album rocks. It doesn't matter if this album is not from one show or not.. it's good. Yes I agree it is not 1000% clear compared to let;s say live show recordings of today but lets' remember no real quality is lacking on these recordings. Hands down I can't stop listening to the fast version of "We Will Rock You" (which hands down is the best show opening tune any band could do besides MAYBE ACDC's "Highway to Hell") and "Don't Stop Me Now". I used to think that song was dumb and cheesy but it is a operatic rock classic and apparently very popular. Get this album if you want one of the top 2 live Queen albums ever produced. Go see Almost Queen which is a tribute band in the NY area if you want to feel like you are live in concert. Unbelievable!
