Customer Rating: Summary: Audio Travelling WIthout Leaving Your Living Room Comment: This is considered one of the most essential albums to have in your world music collection. The cultural diversity is its major appeal. The first track "Udu Chant" starts off with funk like components and then switches to more meditative sounds on "Jewe."
Other albums associated with Mickey Hart are as follows:
Diga Rhythm Band - Diga
Rhythm Devils - The Apocalypse Now Sessions
Mickey Hart - At The Edge
Customer Rating: Summary: False History Comment: the claim that the mickey hart project set the standard for world music is wrong. the standard was set 11 years after olatunji's ground breaking album of 1960 by osibisa in their self title dubut in 1971 and also fela's live album with ginger baker also in 1971. please tell true history not a fabricated opinion
Customer Rating: Summary: Defies categories Comment: If you are interested in music that defies categories, the is the record for you. Micky Hart and nine other great percussionists from around the globe contribute to this exploration of percussive expression. Normally I would not be interested in hearing an assembly of tracks of mostly drums. But this is not a normal assembly. Utilizing a vast collection of instruments, some ancient, some conventional and some invented with 21st century technology, these world masters from Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe create a listening experience that will extend your awareness of the range of music possible through percussion. Tracks based on chants, ritual and ceremonies, dripping water, body slapping, surf and the sounds of human bones create an incredible range of emotional sounds and moving rhythms. But ignore all that if you want: This CD contains beautiful music.

Customer Rating: Summary: Mickey Hart Comment: Planet Drum was bought after I saw Mickey Hart perform in Atlanta. It was an incredible experience. Highly recommend de CD.
Customer Rating: Summary: FABULOUS Comment: I used this to do an African dance workout & everyone asked me for the music. It takes you to another place, and every song is different and wonderful in its own way. Mickey Hart definitely deserved a Grammy for this one!

On the heels of Mickey Hart's acclaimed Global Drum Project album comes The Mickey Hart Collection, a series focusing on landmark world music albums masterminded by the Grateful Dead percussionist. On the innovative Planet Drum album, Hart brought together Nigerian drum legend Babatunde Olatunji, Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, Nigerian talking drum ace Sikiru Adepoju, Puerto Rico's master conguero Giovanni Hidalgo, and Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira, and jazz singer Flora Purim. The album won the very first GRAMMY(tm) for world music in 1991, spent an unprecedented 26 weeks at #1 on the Billboard world music chart, and remains a world-music staple.
